Shew Me NOW Thy Way

Exodus 33:13: Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. 14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

Exodus 34:12: Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

God had told Moses what to say to Pharaoh regarding all the plagues and it had all come true, he had seen the waters of the Red sea parted so Israel could walk through on dry land and the waters return and drown the Egyptians, he had seen Israel fed with the manna, he had been on the mountain alone with God, he had been given the 10 commandments, he had been a witness to the power of God for a long time and he was wise enough to ask the Lord to shew me NOW thy way. Like Moses, our spiritual growth can be measured by how dependent we are upon God. The more continually dependent we are on Him the more mature we are and vice versa.

God promised to go with Moses and the people of Israel, they were separated from worldly people and God commanded them to maintain that separation. Without that separation they would be into idolatry. It works the same way with us. When we receive Christ we need to often ask God to show us NOW His way, remember His promise to go with us and maintain separation from the world.

After all the things he had seen, Moses presumptuously smote a rock a second time when he had been commanded to speak to it and he let others provoke Him and spoke unadvisedly.

Numbers 20:8: Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. 12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Psalms 106:33: Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

No matter how long we have been saved, we are not better than Moses. Like him, we need to carefully seek God*s will in everything we do and say.
